Peer Conflict and Bully Prevention

Sometimes bullying is confused with normal peer conflict.  Here are some ideas to help understand some of the differences.

Tips for Parents:
  1. Discuss strategies for handling bullies and conflict with your child.
  2. Teach you child to walk, talk, and stand with confidence.
  3. Talk to your child about what to do if someone is being mistreated.
  4. Monitor your child’s technology use.
  5. Establish expectations for behavior and provide consequences for inappropriate behavior.
  6. Model respect for individual differences.
  7. Help your child understand how his/her actions affect others.
  8. Encourage your child to share concerns with a trusted adult.
  9. Preserve any evidence.
